In 2007 the eMotionLab was commissioned to develop a game console that would deliver a series of physical exercises to dyslexic children, and record their performance for future anlaysis by the health professional. A series of design constraints imposed by different stakeholders (such as price point, footprint, security, and usability) directed the design and development of a system offering the following features:
Augmented video stream
All interaction with the game console is via a video-camera, which is housed above the visual display unit. On-screen, users see a composite of themselves and the graphical user interface. Interaction with the system is via body movement. To interact with a given menu item, the user will move their body over the visual element.
