Scottish Game Jam: The Book!

January 27, 2012 in Press, SGJ 2012

As Scottish Game Jam 2012 prepares for launch and descends into a flurry of designing, coding, drawing and creating, we’d like to take a moment to remind you of Global Game Jam: $8 Hours of Persistence, Programming and Pizza at Scottish Game Jam, a book written by games writer Jon Brady all about last year’s Scottish Jam. Global Game Jam follows Jon as he keeps track of five very different teams during the Jam, monitoring the successes and failures they encounter during the weekend and watching their games come to life.

The book also includes some useful development advice and hints and tips for the aspiring Game Jammer, and it makes for entertaining reading as Jon’s irregular sleep pattern gets the better of him.

Global Game Jam is on sale now on Amazon for £9.99 at this link: http://amzn.to/tN71IF

It is also available on Kindle for £6.89 here: http://amzn.to/tdg3UT

December 15, 2011 in Sponsors

We would like to give a warm welcome and big thank you to all of our sponsors and friends of Scottish Game Jam 2012. If you are interested in supporting this fantastic event then please get in touch!

Richard Lemarchand (Naughty Dog)

Richard Lemarchand is a Lead Game Designer at Naughty Dog and has a long and distinguished career. He is behind some of the biggest and most successful games ever created. In particular, his work on the Uncharted series has set a benchmark for storytelling, narrative and cinematic spectacle that no other individual or studio has yet achieved. He was Lead Designer on the first and third game and co-Lead Designer on the second along with his colleague Neil Druckman. He has a strong focus on structured production pipeline and team-oriented methodologies. His concept of “concentric development”, wherein a games asset footprint is rapidly built to better iterate on the games design and make the production schedule clear and predictable, has allowed the creation of successful and innovative games including the Legacy of Kain series and the Uncharted games. He is enthusiastic about innovative action-adventure gameplay and interactive storytelling and his successes to date have made him one of the most important figures in games development in the world today.

Liam Wong (Crytek)

Liam is a talented 2D artist working working at Crytek. He was nominated for two BAFTAs for his work on Colour Coded and was also featured on Develop’s 30 under 30. Liam was a mentor at last year’s game jam and will once again be gracing us with his presence for the 2012 Jam.

This was followed with a move into a design role at Rockstar North, and after helping out on the online portions of GTA, he can now be found hiding out in Amsterdam and spends his days designing multiplayer mayhem for Guerrilla Games.
